A little insight into how we make our tongue and groove floorboards

Tongue and groove is our most popular edging choice for flooring and from time to time, we have to re-sharpen the blades used in this part of the process. Once we’ve sharpened them, we have to set the knives back into the cutter blocks, which is what you can see in the photos below.

Each side of the flooring is machined by a pair of cutter blocks, one pair creating the tongue and the other creating the groove. It’s important each of these pairs is set identically, as they need to work in tandem, so we have to be careful to align them perfectly!

We then re-fit the blocks into our 4-sided planer moulder, ready to send through the resawn planks, which will come out the other side as the finished flooring!
